1985 gmc k1500 305 v8

Hey this is Brendan I am having trouble with my
gmc it was running great and I bought a new
distributor cap and put it together and now my
truck won’t start it just spins over fast.

Often caps & rotors are factory defective these days-Even the Delco ones. Crazy as it sounds test both the cap (center pole inside to outside) continuity and the rotor continuity (top center to outer pole.) Is truck cranking faster than per-change? If yes are you sure you did not effect timing by moving distributor (rotating it) ???
