2017 Hyundai Elantra Electric Steering noise??

Asked by lancehaspants May 30, 2020 at 03:35 AM about the 2017 Hyundai Elantra SE FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i bought a used 2017 Hyundai Elantra that has Electric power steering and it
seems to be incredibly hard to search for proper data on the internet
because almost all links talk about hydraulic power steering even when titled
Electric.

I am trying to figure out if the whining noise when i turn the wheel is normal
or a sign of some kind that I need it repaired.  It has no fluids to replace its all
electronic and maybe motorized, i can't find proper info for one, because not
even the user manual has any information at ALL pertaining to the less
known electric steering.  I was sold this car from a smaller dealership under
the blue book value so I thought maybe this was why.  Thanks.  Also even
when going over my work places infernal speed bumps it makes a slight
squeeky whiny noise if shortly after a turn that always makes the noise.

The electric pump might need replacing. Have a decent shop check it out for you.
