1988 Chevy 1500 timing

I have an 88 Chevy 1500. I’m trying to set the timing and I’ve unplugged the timing advance wire but when I put it pack together and nothing has changed, I just put a new distributor in. I’ve tried 2 new ECM’s and nothing will work. What do you tho k I should do?
