My cx5 Grand Touring won't shut off completely.

Asked by Shauna Sep 30, 2017 at 03:41 PM about the 2016 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2016 Cx5 Grand Touring will not shut off
completely.  This started when my car hit 31,000
miles. The engine shuts down but not the radio and
dash lights. Nor will the doors lock so I can't just
walk away because the car will beep consistently
and I fear the battery may die. I have to slam the
gear into "P"ark and then just maybe it will cut off
completely. Sometimes it takes me up to 10 to 12
minutes to get my car to shut off. Took it to the
dealership and they said it was the shifter. They
had my car for 5 days, supposedly fixed it and I got
it back on a Tuesday. By that Friday it started doing
the same thing. Do anyone know what's going
wrong?

Have the same issue in 2017 CX-5. The car won't shut off when pressing the button. Only way to shut it off is to switch gears and then get out of the car quickly. When I'm leaving the car in that state it starts beeping and keep running.

Push and hold the shifter pushing it into park and at the same time push the start button to shut off vehicle. It’s a problem in the shifter not going all the way into park.

Thanks to GuruS2XHMabout (2nd answer) IT WORKED I have 2013 grand touring w/ 83K and this issue has been going on for a while, but up until now I would start car, pull forward then reverse and it would shut off. Today, I could not shut car off, I tried a 8x"s until i pressed the shifter inwards and hit the stop button. What a relief.

A friend of mine has a 2013 Mazda CX5 that would not completely shut down. We tried the suggestions above and the engine and electrical system both shut down each and every time! This problem has apparently been going on with certain Mazda models for years. My question is, "Why in the world have they not addressed this problem and fixed it!
