2016 Ford Fusion backup camera works intermittently.

Asked by Lori Jul 30, 2020 at 11:40 PM about the 2016 Ford Fusion SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My back up camera works sometimes
but more times than not it shows 1 of 3
different things. Either "camera not
available", a blue screen or it just
continues to show the info for what's
playing on my radio. Does anyone else
have this problem or have any ideas on
how to correct it? I'm also trying to find
a wiring diagram for the camera
system so that I can trace the wires to
make sure none are loose or frayed if
anyone has one or knows where I can
find one. Thank you for your time.

I've had the same issue the last 18 months. The dealership has replaced the camera twice and then last week replaced what I think is called the A-Pin module for the Sync system. I'm still having issues with it.

I am also having that problem, but the screen is black and not blue and it does not continue to show the info for whats on my radio. I've been told that maybe buying a new updated entertainment system may be the answer, but it is not guaranteed. I was also told my the Ford dealership that there is a recall for 2020 back up cameras, but not for 2016s.

My 2013 has had this problem for 4-5 years. Disgusting that Ford will not stand behind their product. I will never buy a Ford again!!!

My 2016 Fusion started doing this last week. Sometimes turning the radio off and then back on will get it to work. What a pain!

We have the same issue on our 2016 Ford Fusion Titanium. In the back up mode, most of the time the camera works fine, but not always. About 15% to 20% of the time it does not work, very sporadic when it happens. and when we take it into a Ford dealership to report the malfunction issue, the camera will miraculously function correctly and they can’t fix something that they don’t know what the problem/issue is, but the dealership will definitely charge a diagnostic service to potentially diagnose the issue. We also have the same issues: It will either show the radio screen, if there is an issue with the camera see a Ford dealership for repairs, or we will get a black screen. Just like everybody that has written on this site it is a pain to deal with, and it definitely doesn’t make us very happy. The last thing we want to do is run over something, back into something or someone. so when it goes out, we definitely have to make sure we pay 100% attention. Not the reason we made sure that we had a back up camera on this vehicle! Technology didn’t help on this issue for any of us! Ford definitely needs to do a recall on this and not make us pay for it and if there is a recall, we get a refund. It gives them an extra reason not to do a recall because customers go ahead and pay for the repair and hoping that there will be a recall. Ford Motor Company and The Ford Motor Company Headquarters in Detroit, please put a recall on our rear view camera issues. Thank You and good luck everybody, hopefully we get good news on a potential recall on the back up cameras for our vehicles also.
