88 suburban

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my dad let me use his 88 suburban, i drove from his house to mine (about a
mile) no issue. when i went to leave my house, the truck wouldnt start. we
were thinking maybe the switch went out because we've been having
problems with it anyway ever since my brother broke the key off in it. So we
went to the part store and bought another switch with a new key, replaced it
and now we get no connection at all. Before the lights and gages would
come on, now nothing. and there is no tension when the key is pushed like
there should be. My guess is old wires in the column or the fuel pump? dad
said if it was the fuel pump, the lights and such would still come on like
before. makes sense to me, but i still cant figure out why the hell we cant get
the damn thing fixed... helppppp

I'd say the wiring in the steering column is your issue. Double check your work and also inspect the ignition switch and wiring. Youtube might have a video or two so you can check to see if the wiring matches.
