Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Had my 2007 wrx overheated last night while the
car was parked and engine was running. It was 3/4
the temp gauge. I put water on the radiator and
then it cooled down. Drove it for 15kms and the
gauge was perfectly fine. I noticed the fans were
running even the temp was below 1/2. Could
anyone tell me what caused the overheating and
why does the fans run when it is cold ?  Can
anyone help ? Plesse

Low coolant level can make it run hot. The low coolant probably means you have a leak. Fix the leak and refill it with 50/50 anti freeze and then purge all the air out of the system.

"water ON the radiator"?? IN or just splashed outside to cool it? If the former there's your answer. If the latter you may have a cooling system issue or even a cracked HG or head. Be more specific.

Thanks for your answer. I could hear water bubble noise. HG or head symptoms are water and oil mixture. Isn’t it right ?
