major steering problem

Asked by Guru9XV9QT May 10, 2021 at 06:13 PM about the 2014 Ford Escape SE FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Front wheels will not move left or right when engine is running. Steering
wheel will not turn
at all. Warning on the dash regarding the electric steering when engine is
running. Is the
electric steering unit unrepairable and requires replacement. Dealership
garage said
something about the module. Are there any recalls or service notices? Was
told cost could
exceed $3000 Cdn, That is a crazy price. This car has only 55000km. It was
bought new in
May, 2014 and has been fully maintained and serviced and not used or
abused in any
fashion.
Any help from you would be greatly appreciated. Currently, the Escape is at
the dealership
garage.

What are they replacing? I'm seeing the power steering pump for your vehicle for $500 USD. I'm assuming that's the module they're talking about. For that kind of money I'd get a second opinion! Hope that helps! Jim
