yes your towing capacity is 5,000 lbs. if it were mine would i tow that trailer? no definitely not if i didn't have to. the 2013 Santa Fe with its 290 hp v-6 is sluggish going up hills without even having a full vehicle of passengers. i feel Hyundai set the bar to high for them selves and feel that the Santa Fe will struggle with that trailer. But bottom line according to factory yes you can tow upto 5,000 lbs.

I filed it up with full cargo. It tows like a champ! So happy that it worked out! I love my new keystone passport trailer and Santa fe! did a good job going up and down hills to. I did get breaks on the trailer and I also have an stabilization anti-sway hitch.

HI, I know this was 3 yrs ago, but I am in a similar situation--wanted to check in and see if your Passport is still towing well. My 2017 Santa Fe has a tow capacity of 5000 lbs, too, and I want to get a travel trailer. Thanks!

As "zak3nn3dy" had pointed out, 4000 lb travel trailer plus cargo may really be pushing the limit of the Santa FE. Yes, the towing limit is 5000 lbs,but this is on the very high end. We tow 20 feet long travel trailer with dry weight of 3200 lbs so loaded never goes above 4000 lbs. Our Santa FE does fine with this load, but I monitor transmission/engine temperature constantly (invest in Scangauge II if you have not done it already). During the summer time the transmission temperature did reach occasionally 240F degrees, but I never pushed it too hard (transmission runs at around 200-210F without any camper attached because of the way the transmission cooler is designed in these cars). Bottom line is that it will tow up to 5000 lbs, but I would try to keep the weight no more than 4000 lbs since you have to account for the passenger weight as well in the car.
