Civic Coupe 2013 rear bumper replacement

Asked by Shae280 Nov 16, 2019 at 01:42 PM about the 2013 Honda Civic Coupe LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had a new bumper replaced after an accident. I only wanted an OEM
bumper. I was told an OEM was used but I have doubts. Can an auto body
shop be able to tell me if the bumper I received was OEM? I had someone
look at it and he did not think it was OEM looking at it. He said the work was
not the best he has seen. I really need a definitive answer. I would think there
are markings somewhere on the bumper as to OEM or aftermarket.

The bumper is on the car so I obviously would not be able to see it on the back. Where underneath would it be? Does the car have to go on a lift to see it?

Just take a look. Crawl under it and see what you can see! Pay a mechanic or body shop if you are really worried about this.

I am not able to look myself. I just wanted to make sure before I take it somewhere that they will be able to see it. I am not worried, just concerned that I was not given what I paid for. Unfortunately there are very few people you can trust these days. Just trying to find out if this shop was dishonest.

Did you pay for it or did the insurance company? Most shops working with insurance companies perform work to maximize profits. I had a body shop once say they would replace the hood skin due to a fender bender, when I picked it up, the dent was just filled in and painted.

It was through insurance but it was agreed that it would be replaced with OEM bumper. The original estimate was written using an aftermarket bumper but was told the body shop would negotiate a price for an OEM. I do have it in writing that an OEM bumper was used . I am sure they never thought I would look into it or question it. I just need to know for sure because if it turns out an aftermarket part was used there is going to be a big problem.
