binding 4x4 dakota
My Dakota binds in 4x4 and I have put new half shafts and checked all the fluids, Transfer, and axle. Is this a transfer case problem or a differencial problem?
Have you checked the tire size? make sure they are the same diameter by running a measuring tape around the tread of the tires, Double check the differentials ratios, the front should be approximately 1/10th faster than the rear ratio, so if you have 3.54 in the rear you will have 3.53 in the front, this rule applies to all true 4X4's AWD is different.
This is a electric 4x4 and the front axle is 233 gear. I believe that the gears are original from the factory.
WOW that's really high, most of the Dakotas I've worked on have had the 3.54 with a few 3.95s I suggest you raise all 4 wheels off the ground and block it securely, put it in 4 wheel drive low and let it idle in gear see if you can pickup on any abnormal noise coming out of the transfercase, if no noise then shut it down, place the tranny in neutral, transfercase in 2 wheel drive, turn the front wheels at the same time 1 turn and watch the front driveline and count the turns the driveline makes in one turn of the tires, then repeat the operation with the rears tires they should be really close to the same turns of the driveshafts. If they don't match then someone has changed a front or rear differential along the line, or it was mis-built from the factory and no one caught it.
Thank you, I made a mistake, the transfer case is a 233, not the diff, I am going to pull the front cover and get the numbers off of the ring gear and try to find out what gear is in it. I have been told that the rear gear is listed in the glove box.
is there any problems on a 2006 dodge dakota 3.7 v6 four wheel drive.. and any wrong with the drive train
