2013 Ford Escape High engine temperature stop safely

Asked by Lord Dec 17, 2018 at 05:50 PM about the 2013 Ford Escape SEL FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2013 Ford Escape had a hole in one of the
small coolant lines and leaked out all the coolant.
It then gave the message saying engine
temperature high stop safely and barely would
accelerate at all. Since then I have replaced the
thermostat and the temperature sensor. The alarm
has not cleared and the car is not drivable.  Does
anyone have any insight as to what I should try
next?

Have the engine evaluated as it may be ruined.

Turns out it wasn't ruined and just had a "hard code" due to overheating which a friend cleared for me.

Could be several things, fan controller or temp sensor, water pump, thermostat, radiator or degas bottle cap, take it in somewhere and have it looked at. High temperatures can destroy an engine so not worth risking by doing nothing.
