RPMs jump when cruise control is set

Asked by bravemom4 Dec 31, 2014 at 05:05 PM about the 2003 Dodge Dakota SLT Club Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When cruise is on or when maintaining a set speed the RPMs shoot up and then come
back down. Some days it's every time you drive and some days doesn't happen at all?
What could be the problem? Recommendations for the fix?

I think you have a vacuum style cruise control. U probably have a vacuum leak. If it a vaccum style it looks like a ball in the engine bay. Bigger than a softball smaller than a soccer.
