Over the past 2 months my gas mileage has decreased dramatically. I am getting 30 to 40 miles less a tank as to before? What is going on and how do I fix this problem?

Air filter is one of the biggest things, running fuel injector cleaner threw the gas makes a difference, and if it is cold out, gas mileage drops with the colder temperature anyway.

You may be suffering from changing gas formulas. The eco-nazi's in your state probably require changing gas formulas for winter and summer and some gas mixes will cause cars to run badly.

I have purchased 2 Nissan Rogues new and have had the same problem with bad MPG. I have concluded that the problem is in their software for air/fuel ratio that changes depending on outdoor temperature. I get around 22 miles per gallon in the winter and around 28 miles per gallon in the summer and it's not from the fuel change because it will happen even with the same tank of gas if the temperature changes.

I don't have an answer for the question. But I did notice this winter that my MPG went down to 19 when heat is turned to Max. I'm in Oklahoma. So I don't have to turn heat up that high all the time in winter. When I don't turn heat up, I can get close to 30 MPG. The last week, with air condition on full blast for a week, my MPG was @ 29. Something is not right.

why im getting only 16mpg on my 2008 Nissan rouge ? it could be the computer that is reading wrong ?

I recently purchased a 2018 Nissan Rogue Hybrid for it's featured fuel economy (31/34/33), but when I checked the mileage (real check, not dashboard readout) I only got 24 mpg! I called the dealer and he said this happens in cold weather. What the heck? I'm really disappointed.

I wrote in before (mfarina01) my belief is that the air/fuel ratio used by the on- board computer is the problem which is relative to outside temperature. I want to also add that the CVT transmission used by NIssan cars is also part of the problem. If you notice that when you go down a steep hill the car does not pick up speed as fast as a car with a normal hydraulic transmission. That tells me that there is resistance in the engine from the CVT and resistance in the engine is less MPG.

Mfarina I think you’re totally right. You have to have the gas on the whole time or the car slows to a halt. My old car (Mini cooper) was nothing like this. I get 23 mpg moslty highway miles on my 2018 rogue. And live in Portland where the cold temp is about 50. Super disappointed in the gas mileage. It’s worse than what you’d get in a mini van. I’m constantly filling the tank. And I drive really mild. I got 35-43 mpg in my Mini Cooper stick shift so 23 is super shitty. If I had to do it again I would have bought a rav 4 hybrid. Someone hit and totaled my old car or I would still be driving it.

Thanks for responses. My Nissan Altima was a superhero in gas mileage and I was devastated when it was in an accident and was totaled by the insurance co. I am now driving a Nissan Rogue, but fill the tank every 9-10 days and only get 17-18 mpg, which is freaking me out, it is so low!! The dealer says everything looks fine, but this is unacceptable,. Does anyone know if running in the ECO format helps?? I live in Indiana, so maybe it will get better when it warms up?

I don't have an answer but I am having the same trouble as the person who asked the original question. I've watched my mileage per tank go down 60 miles in the last 18 months. I have the car serviced regularly and have done cleaning solutions. Nothing has helped . The dealer where I bought the car says that my driving habits have changed. Bunk. 60 miles worth? Something is wrong and I'm seriously considering getting rid of the car because of it. I don't know what else to do! Any help offered would be appreciated.

Nissan definitely lies when it comes to gas mileage, which is really shady when that is one of the main decision makers when buying a new vehicle. My 2018 SL was advertised at 25 City 32 Highway with a combined 27. I get an average of 22.4. It's not how I drive, I have always gotten the top end on my many vehicles. They told me it would get better after 3,000 miles, I'm at 12,000 now, no better Next time I'll go with what my other choice.. Nissan should get fined for false advertising.

Vancouver, WA. I bought a 2018 rogue recently, I'm only on my second tank of gas. Mileage advertised for it was 26/33. I'm only getting in the low 20s as average. I would never have bought the car if it has advertised the actual gas mileage. I drive with a light foot, meaning I should be getting excellent gas mileage. My sister has the 2016 rogue and when I drive it, it gets around 30 mph. I'm very unhappy about the mpg and don't want to keep the car. What can I do?

I just purchased, 08/02/2019, a 2011 Rogue and the moment I fill the tank, my dash reads 19.4 mpg. I will take it back tomorrow to have their mechanic look it over, but I suspect several things, 1. Needs a tuneup w/filter. 2. Needs oil change for sure. 3. I need to replace spark plugs and wires. We’ll see if this changes my mpg. I’m hoping to get to 25-27 mpg.

I don’t think it’s anything mechanical or wear related, and I agree with the others who are saying Nissan is just being deceptive about their MPG claims. I chalk it up to the shitty CVT transmission and weighing around 3500 pounds with a weak 2.5 liter engine working hard to pull that weight around. It needs a turbo or V6 option but that would bump it up into the Murano’s category and Nissan would be competing with itself.

I just bought a 2017 Nissan Rogue AWD. When I gassed it up I deleted the past gas mileage history so I could see what I was getting. My Rogue is currently showing 26.5 miles per gallon in town. I can not complain to much being it does not cost near as much to fill the Rogue up as it did my Honda Accord that I had prior. So far I am happy with my Rogue if I can just figure out what the sport and eco features are for and when to use them.

I have posted here before with my thoughts about why I got poor gas mileage on my Rogue and I finally figured it out. I started hearing this grinding noise that sounded like my brakes so I had it checked out and found that my brakes were worn down to the metal and were all rusted and were not releasing all the way when I took my foot of the brake pedal so it was like driving with my foot on the brakes all the time. I was getting worse and worse gas mileage down to about 22 miles a gallon. After the brake repair I am getting 28 to 30 miles a gallon average. I don't know if its a bad brakes design or just bad luck but I'm happy with my 2015 Nissan Rogue now. I only have 17000 miles and I practice hyper mileing when I drive, my brakes should have lasted at least 30000 miles.

I bought a 2015 rogue in February 2019 and was averaging 9 km/litre. Did two oil changes since with mobil 1. Air filter is clean once per month. Today I notice I am down to 7.7 km/litre. I am thinking it maybe my tyres are getting worn cause there is no warning signs on dash and am using the same fuel since February.

I’ve got a 2012 Rogue with 270,000 MILES on it. It has honestly been a fantastic car for my family. It averages 25-27 with the A/C Compressor on and 30-35 with it off. The key to mileage with these is getting to speed rather swiftly so the vehicle can get into overdrive sooner. BMW actually did research on that topic, finding the sooner you get to your final gear and back off the throttle, the better your mileage. I will note it does seem to use more gas at idle than most cars, this is where most people will see that their overall mileage drops. This vehicle could definitely benefit from stop-start. It also eats brake pads because the transmission is programmed to overdrive constantly, unless on a big downhill. A feature I enjoy that people may not understand is the grade shifting programmed into this vehicle. The transmission intentionally downshifts and brings the rpms up when you let off on a hill to prevent the vehicle from accelerating downhill. This is intended to keeps the brakes cool so they are available if you need them 100% at the bottom. It did suffer the dreaded CVT failure at 140,000, and the A/C a few weeks after. Indeed no one likes to be in that situation, but considering this vehicle was earning $2 per mile it was repaired and given a second chance. It has been problem free since and everything still works and looks like a much lower mileage car. Although I do believe there will likely be another CVT and A/C in its not to distant future, I must say I’ve enjoyed the car tremendously. It’s fantastic for getting to trails off the beaten path, or taking short trips around the state. The CVT helps tremendously to make it very drive able for a 4 cylinder, although a highway car it is simply not. I will likely keep it forever as it is sentimental now that my mother no longer drives. I’m thankful to have the opportunity to have seen what one of these is like over long term ownership. I conclude by saying the CVT takes a different owner, but if you understand it and listen to it, you might just have a great lasting relationship with your Rogue as well.

I have a silver 2012 Rogue SL AWD with about 97,600 miles on it, and 90K when I bought it a year ago. So far it's been a pretty good vehicle to drive here, there, and everywhere. And no, it is not the best vehicle to drive on the highway unfortunately.. I used to have a black 2003 Nissan Frontier and this is just about the same size but with better gas mileage. Although I have had issues with the transmission..but these things are apparently notorious for transmission issues. I have also noticed a drop in the number of miles I can drive on a tank after I fill up..I'm not too sure on that one but I'm not too worried about it. It is pretty good on gas for the most part. It says 22-26 and that's not too bad..but you may not get a completely accurate reading on your gas all of the time. I do use my AC most of the time so I figured that'll use a tad bit more gas. But just as every Nissan has their issues, I think that a lot of the issues that have been diagnosed with a number of different Nissan models need to be taken care of before something major goes wrong or gets any worse.

My older Altima has an idle control/auxlliary air control valve that contains the kind of wax that's in a turkey DONE pop-up indicator. If one jumps in the car and starts driving cold, the ECM might not have the correct parameters to set fuel curves. Just guessing.

I still don’t understand it, but, my 2014 rogugeS got great gas mileage 30-33 mpg on freeway. Of the first 3 years. Then about 6 months ago, it just tanked ! Literally. I also noticed that my traction light was staying on after I started my car. It would stay on the whole time till I shut the car off. So my friend messed around , couldn’t fix the light, but when it was turned of MANUALLY, meaning push the button under the dash it would turn it off and my gas mileage improved drastically ! I had been getting about 18-22 mpg on the freeway, almost 1/3 of what I WAS getting. I still don’t understand that. Unless that was keeping the traction l8ght on full time affected my MPG. and what’s the difference between the traction button being all the time, ( which it shouldn’t be) and the all wheel drive button. That’s all about traction too. I’m confused. But at least my gas mileage is good again. I good try replacing the fuse. To see if that will fix the light problem on the dash. So it goes off after start the car But, either way, I don’t understand how that affects my gas mileage.
