My Sonata is making a noise on and off????

Question type: General

I have a 2012 Sonata.  It has 97,000 miles on it.  For the last year, ever few
months it makes a noise then disappears for a few months.  So the
noise....It usually happens in the morning.  I drive a few miles and when I
step on the gas, it makes the noise.  It sounds like a muffled buzzy grinding
sound.  When I take my foot off the gas it stops.  It last for a few seconds.
When it's making the noise, I can only hear it if the car is cold.  Again,
months will go by and there is no strange sound.  It sounds like it's coming
from the the passenger's side of the motor.  Doesn't sound like it's coming
from the wheel.  Doesn't seem to be affecting the engine or transmission
and I don't smell anything strange.

Until you can have a mechanic drive the car and hear the noise this will likely remain a mystery.

I have some professional recording equipment, so I recorded it. Gave the file to the Hyundai dealers and they blew me off. Said mechanics had to hear it. I left it with them overnight, and of course, it didn't make the sound when they drove it the next morning.

Have them check your splash shield and remove the one on the passenger side!

I have a 2012 Hyundai Sonata and it’s making the same noises it almost sounds like those old multi-cd players when it would change discs or when you skip tracks but anyway I’m doing the same research not a definite answer yet but it’s a possibility it’s the satellite radio doing updates

Sounds more like the serpentine belt and pulley may be needing change.

Bump! Mine is a 2012 Hybrid Sonata with 95,000 miles. I can’t figure out what the noise means, or if it’s just normal? It’s like a buzzing, whirring noise on and off. I took it in for a tune up and they hooked it up for a computer scan and everything looked perfectly fine. I’m at a loss. Should I be concerned?

I have a sonata 2012 it had the a similar noise after days trying to figure this out, I found out that it was the air conditioning fan, turn off the ac ( press ac off button) reduce the fan to the minimum doesn’t resolve. Make the test if it’s the same thing all you need is change the fan.
