Cooling Fan Issue

Asked by Gr8fulbuck Apr 27, 2018 at 11:55 AM about the 2012 Ford Escape XLT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

In May 2017 my AC cooling fan stopped
working.  I also had to replace AC condensor
which I believe is the result of the fan not
working.  Had 120k miles.  So $1,182 repair
the cooling fan and the AC condenser
meanwhile April 2018 again the AC cooling
fan is no longer working. So less than a year
old less than 12 months but 50,000 miles on
the new fan and it stops working. I am
somehow wondering if based on the design
of the vehicle and taking it through the
automatic car washes with those blower
fans at the end of the wash cuz after coming
through there one time shortly before this
new issue a bunch of steam and or whatnot
came up out of the hood there in that
particular area right there in the front and I'm
wondering maybe if somehow based on
washing the vehicle and the water running
into the engine and then those fans are
those blowers trying to dry it off if that
doesn't flood those fans with all the water
from the wash or something I'm just
wondering if it's somehow a combination
error or as a result of that.

As far as the steam, you certainly need to fix that. As far as the radiator fan, you may be able to use jumper wires off the battery for voltage and ground to see if fan will run? If it runs nothing wrong with fan. Some makes and models if you turn on the hvac, the fan will start running. Some vehicles, if you disconnect the coolant temp sensor, the fan will run. Sometimes Ford calls that sensor a cylinder head temp sensor/cht. I did look at service bulletin for cht, found this info, your vehicle was listed with some others, It's just a possibility.
