How do I know if my 2012 XLT Ford Escape has 4WD or AWD?

Asked by Aug 04, 2014 at 02:38 PM about the 2012 Ford Escape XLT

Question type: General

I just purchased a Ford Certified Pre Owned 2012 XLT ford escape. I was told the
vehicle has 4WD, but I was told quite a few other things that turned out to be not the
case. I'm concerned that this car does not have at the least AWD, which I need for
work. Is there any place I can look up using the vin number? Is there a way to call the
Ford Manufacturer? I have no button or switch to move in 4WD and I was told the
computer does it.

The 2012 Escape is equipped with FWD or AWD. There is no buttons on the dash for either. If your vehicle is equipped with AWD the computer takes care of traction to the slipping wheels by using the ABS system. Easy way to know if your car has it, is look under the rear of the vehicle and if you have a rear differential, and axles going to the rear wheels, and also a driveshaft in the middle of the Escape, you have AWD.
