ford focus overheating

While driving, you have a 60 mph air flow through your radiator. Parked, you have nothing without the fan coming on.They should first be looking to see if the radiator cooling fan comes on while parked and idling hot. A simple test to see if the fan even runs is click on the A/C, fan should run. If it goes off when A/C is turned off, then a sensor or controller is not turning it on when engine gets too hot.

Makes sense. Sometimes I feel and hear fan come on. Sometimes it starts blowing warm air when stopped , sometimes it's cold. I will take it back and question this. The mgr actually called me today and told me they would"make it right" haha. we shall see

The fan to be concerned about is the radiator fan, not the AC fan.

What would make it blow warm when not moving? And only doing it sometimes?

The fan blows the heat from the radiator and only comes on when needed. You won't notice this when you are driving.

If your car is not moving and A/C is running, your coil can freeze causing loss of cooling for your cabin of vehicle. (It can cause reduced air flow also.)Run fan without A/C to defrost coil faster.

if you have the exact same synthoms is the fan module that has failed i bougth a brand new one, replaced it and problem solved i used a car scanner that allow me to try the module and i found that the sensor wasnt working, the dealer try to make me replace the complete fan but i found the sensor alone and brand new on ebay for one quarter of the price and the replacement is super easy

the car parts shop told me is a common issue because the module doesnt comes properly sealed from factory so after time water coms in and ruines the modeule, they recommend me to put and extra sealer before installing it

Yes. Was resolved. Replacement of the fan. Another $600 but no issues at all after replacing the fan system Also they told me could only get it from Ford. There's no after market for it

I'm having some troubles with my Ford Focus 2012. It was overheating becouse of the fan I Fixed as soon as posible. A couple of month after it overheat againg and after that I couldn't start the engine again. It's making strange clicking noise when I try to start the engine. I can't figure it out what is happening.

I have almost the same problem. While driving, suddenly the temperature indicator is on red, stays there for a few seconds and then goes back in half. At first I thought it was a problem with thermostat. I change it twice. I change the radiator and the water pump. The problem continues. Two days ago I noticed the ventilator was not turning on. I fixed it today but the problem is still there. The last thing I' m going to check, is the central processor, that is behind the control panel, I suppose. Maybe it fails...but, I' m very disappointed with Ford support services, and till now I spent enough money without to find any solution.

I have a 2016 ford focus with 40K miles. The car is fairly new. It started overheating about a month ago. It is OK when idling or at low speed. Once I hit the gas to get on the freeway, I see the gage move from normal to hot in a matter of few seconds and red light comes on. When I slow down to 30 or 40 mph, the gage goes back to normal right away. I checked the fan and it is running. I have replaced the cap to reservoir, replaced thermostat, replaced water pump, new coolant but the problem is still there. I appreciate any advice you have for me. This is driving me crazy.

GuruZDL5322 I ended up having my fan replaced. That was the problem the whole time. The fan was not kicking on. I was so confused because I was originally told my fan was good. Have your fan checked. Make sure it kicking on when it's supposed to, and if it ends up needing replaced make sure whoever is replacing it does so with a Ford part. Not aftermarket

Ok, my fan does work, at idle. So you are saying when I am driving down the road the fan is not turning on?

No, it's just the problem I had. My fan was not working as it was supposed to. It was coming on when it felt like it. But the shop also thought my fan was ok cause they said they heard it coming on at idle but it was not the fan kicking on, it was the A C. I didn't know this until After I spent all that money fixint things that weren't bad. I ended up trading my car in may for a 2020 fusion cause my headlight on passenger side had electrical issues. My focus Only had transmission issues 1x. And when I traded my focus, it had 178,000 miles on it.

hi.... what a rubbish answered guys .... this is my first time here ....i tell you solution to over heating and AC problems ... if your car over heating or ac not working fine just check only few things..... first check your fan directly through battery or connector out from the ECT sensor.... its locate to radiator upper pipe engine side.... then start the car if fan is working at full speed its mean fan is ok if not run then check fan motor only..... secondly check AC switch which is locate compressor to condenser line just by pass it 100% AC will work with fan if not then check fan relay and compressor .... after all work take out negative battery terminal for 30 mints then back terminal plug on...and then run your car and check if still have same problem then check vacuum leak if vacuum no leak then again negative battery terminal off and injector check all are working or not if not then change injector only.... i m 100% sure your car would be perfect..... dear guys always remember new car never have big problem .... garage people try to fool innocent people and waste their money and time ..... when your car work fine then remember me in your pray only GOD forgive my life's mistakes...take care your self too GOD bless all thank you guys

I read some of the comments above but i'll give full details to see if anyone has the best solution to try. I have a 2012 ford focus and having issues with my radiator fan not coming on. When im parked somewhere with the car on it over heats. But when i drive there are no issues. Sometimes it comes on sometimes it doesn't. Really can't figure out how or why. Checked fluids, got a new coolant reservoir, new coolant sensor, new fuse, new relay. Still overheats. Not sure if I need a new fan module or whole new fan. Or if it's something totally different.

I just bought a used 2012 Ford Focus, drove it hwy 30 mins and it overheated, the coolant had pressure and was boiling hot but was actually over full before opening it, I dropped it off at mechanic and today they tell me that they can't find anything wrong with it, it has not overheated but now all of a sudden, they say my a/c wont get cold. I called another mechanic and he said it could be some gasket maybe??? idk what do you guys think??

This Year Ford car 2012'is no good. It's to expensive to maintain this car Ford screwed everybody with this 2012 Ford focus it's a lemon.
