water pump noise

when i start my 03 deville it sounds like a whrrring noise coming from the water
pump for about 20 seconds then stops. no noise after, only when i start it
again.....temp. gauge reads no overheating. any ideas?

haven't checked the belt yet.... what should i look for on the belt... also i did check the trans fluid last week and it was a bit low, added about a quart, the code says 100% but the noise was happening before... let me know what i should look for on the belt.... thank you very much.
