where is the automatic transmission dip stick located on the 1992 525i engine?
Hello crb756-- The reason you can't find the transmission fluid dipstick on your 1992 BMW 525i is that it didn't have one. Like most cars nowadays, the transmission fluid is meant to last the lifetime of the car and unless you damage the transmission, they won't leak. A mechanic would have to get under the car and measure fluid level from there if necessary. Good luck from Bovan.
I have a 525i with an automatic transmission. There is a dipstick in between the Mass air flow sensor and the firewall. It is close to the round diagnostic port. It is almost touching the intake for the m50 engine. It is easy to turn the dipstick but very hard to pull it out of there. I have tried different techniques; but, I just cant seem to get it. I have to have my girlfriend pull it out for me so I can check the fluid level. These transmissions have a filter and are not filled for life. Make sure you get new bolts for the pan if you change the filter and don't over-tighten them and strip em out. Two were stripped when I got mine and I will have to tap larger threads into them one of these days when I want to get it to stop leaking completely.
