right front disc brake seizing, cause?

Asked by whatnext May 25, 2014 at 10:39 AM about the 2006 Cadillac STS V6 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

right front disc brake seizes. removed caliper, collapsed pistons(was very difficult, had
master cylinder cap off).  left side pistons collapsed normally(used c-clamp to collapse
caliper pistons).  changed brake pads. re-installed calipers.  without starting engine,
pumped up brakes, everything normal.  start engine apply brakes, right front seizes.

Normally this is caused by the rubber line going to the caliper. Either kinked or internally collapsed. With it seized up loosen the rubber hose from from where it attaches to the steel line. If it remains seized up then loosen the rubber hose from the caliper. If it then un seizes replace the rubber line.

sorry, forgot to mention, rubber hose from steel line was replaced. problem still exists. this car has 57,000 miles, one owner. southern car, garage kept. note, when rubber hose disconnected from caliper, brake fluid will discharge(gravity). also, brake caliper will bleed when go thru bleeding procedure.

Are you saying caliper will only loosen thru bleeder and not when loosening the hose. Caliper should also bleed pressure off when rubber hose is loosen. If caliper does not loosen up when hose is loosened then either something is in hose resticting flow or caliper is bad.
