What could be making a sound when I turn my 2011 MKX?

Asked by Guru92ZMJT Jun 27, 2023 at 10:21 PM about the 2011 Lincoln MKX AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a Lincoln MKX 2011 that I recently purchased used.

A few weeks back, I had got the left inner tie rod and front right bearing replaced.

I had also got the power steering pressure hose replaced two months ago.

Today I noticed some rubbing or friction sound from near the wheels when I am turning tightly while moving slowly like in my parking.
I didn't notice it while driving at speed.

What could be causing this rubbing sound?

Worn out brakes, rear axle not aligned, some foreign object stuck in the brakes or pulse ring. Any number of things really.

The front brakes were also recently replaced. What's puzzling to me is that the sound/vibration happens only when making a turn, mostly a left turn.

Makes noise on a turn? That really sounds like an axle bearing.

Ok, that seems to be answer. Could it be because of any of the previous work I got done? Like the work not properly done when replacing the inner tie rod? Otherwise what kind of an expense am I looking at?

You need to check it out and find just where the sounds is coming from before condemning new parts, but with the quality of stiff today don’t be surprised if it is a new part. Quality components are really hard to find.

I looked more into this. So it seems I will have to replace one or two axles; is that right?

Only if the CV joints are also bad. The tech can figure that out when they pull the hubs.

Took it to the mechanic, and told him about the sound coming from only the right side. It happened to be the side where the bearing was replaced. So he just took out the wheel, and axle nut, and put them back. The sound is gone now.

That sounds like they didn't get the preset right in the first place.
