I can't open my passenger door. the lock works but something in the linkage must be loose or broken. the problem is that I can't get the door panel off without opening the door.

Try using your key in the door passenger door lock(if so equipped) this should allow the door to be opened. There are plastic clips on most linkages that tend to break. Once you get the door panel off that's probably what you will find.
