P0446 code 2010 Ford Escape 3.0L

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2010 Escape 3.0L codes P0446 & P0456 come up on the OBD2 as the
reason my engine light stay on and I failed State Emissions test.  I had new
Ford Vapor Canister Vent Solenoid installed but it didn't change the codes or
dash light.  I'm wondering if putting on a tight fitting gas cap or installing a
new Vapor Canister Purge Valve will change my issues?  Can anyone that's
solved these issues with a 2010 Escape 3.0L contribute to my issues with the
codes & light?

Did you clear the computer after the repair? The check engine light will not go out on it's own until the computer has tested the EVAP system three times and it passes the test all three times. To get the computer to run the EVAP system test the gas gauge must be between one quarter and three quarters full. I would suggest clearing the computer and drive for a few days with the gas gauge in those parameters. Under Federal Law you will pass emissions inspection with one of the readiness monitors not set. Doesn't matter which one is not set as long as the rest are set. The EVAP system readiness monitor is the hardest one to get to set, BTW. So, if you can get all the other readiness monitors set, fill up the gas tank after the other readiness monitors are set, and go to inspection. With no codes and all but one readiness monitor set they have to pass you. It's the law. Hope that helps! Jim
