Can I fit a full size tire where the donut is?

Asked by MrChristophr Apr 16, 2017 at 05:07 PM about the 2010 Ford Escape XLS FWD

Question type: General

Hey there, just got a 2010 escape and it
came with the donut underneath as well as
a full size aluminum spare that matches the
rest. Is there any way to mount the full one
underneath instead? Other stuff online
seems to be giving me mixed answers so I
was curious what other people thought.
Thanks!

Without looking at it, I would doubt it as a donut usually fits into a limited space, where as a full size tire then would be too big.

No, that is why they give you a donut. Mount the full sized spare on the tailgate with the proper hardware.

You lift the tail gait and follow the latch seal to the bottom center of the trunk. Under it is a metal circle with a rectangular hole in it. Loosen than and the tire will slowly come loose. Be sure to remove the lug nut attached to the spare tire under your car first. When you loosen the rectangular shaped fitting bolt under your trunk seal it will lower the spare on a Wire you must feed the wire through the center of the spare once loosened enough to get it off. You should have all of the tools you need in your trunk if you look to the right as soon as you pop the latch there is a removable door panel everything should be in there or in the compartment under the floor rug in the trunk.
