Why have you done no diagnostics testing? That's the first thing you should do. Have it scanned for trouble codes and go from there. I wouldn't keep driving it until you've found and fixed the problem. That sounds like the sort of problem that can destroy your engine. I speak from experience. Don't ignore those ticking knocking noises.

Thank you! Didn't know until a few days ago this was a free service! Mechanic approached me and stated same thing, diagnostics, cleaning, and driving it was the only way to really know he said as well. The man in my life drives it more than I do cause I'm a private caregiver and never home. He is not a mechanic but continues to insist on fixing it his self using YouTube and Google! This has continued to be a debate and an extremely touchy one at that! :-) maybe Dear Abby is what I need? Lol!

Perhaps we can be your Dear Abbys. I understand both of you. If he's doing things in a "modern" way there's still lots he can do, but if like me he's and "old school" guy and tried to apply old school ways to modern cars he's going to get into a lot of trouble. I'm one of those guys and have learned a lot the hard way. That's why I hang out here, trying to keep others from making the same mistakes. Good luck with your car. Sounds like you're on the right track now.
