2009 Sante Fe wont start sometimes

Asked by Mikeylabs Jul 19, 2019 at 06:28 AM about the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.7L GLS AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2009 Sante Fe. I have replaced the starter, ignition
switch, and neutral safety switch. It randomly wont start
after driving for a while. Then all of a sudden it starts up.
Mechanic cant figure it out because by the time I get it to
the shop it starts. Dealership ran tests and came back
saying replace all items I've replaced.

Theres sometimes, even though it's a long shot, that you may have a defective new part? If your familiar with cars next time it won't start try starting it directly at the solenoid/starter. If doesn't start there directly u'll know its starter.

@ed92626 the issue I'm having is by the time I get it to a shop it's starting. Also, I had a dealership run a test and they said the issue is the stuff that's been replaced.

So I am curious...does the engine crank over (stater is turning it )?

Ed above is right. Starting systems are not usually rocket science but take it to a mechanic that's good with electrical issues. I especially say that because there's a long shot it could be alarm system. Again do u know how and did u try bypassing all and going straight to starter when it won't start?

I haven't tried to bypass the starter, I dont know how to do that. By the time I get it to the mechanic the car starts. So the dealer and mechanic have yet to see it when it doesnt start. The dealer says replace starter, ignition switch, and neutral safety switch. Which had been done, starter twice. I've replaced the battery with in the last 6 months also. Usually when it doesnt start within an hour it starts again.
