If you turn the engine off and then restart it does the light re-set?

By leaving the key on a filling up the gas tank you've put the computer in "anti-slosh mode". In the old days the gas gauge would fluctuate while driving. That doesn't happen any more because the gas gauge is computer controlled. With the key off the computer isn't looking at the reading from the gas gauge sending unit in the gas tank. But with the key on it is. Because the computer is seeing a big change in gas level it holds the gauge in one position because it thinks the gas in the tank is sloshing around due to driving on rough roads. If you leave the key off or just drive for about 45 minutes it'll reset itself and be ok again. No harm done. HTH. -Jim
