Why does the UK get better Ford modles then the USA.

Question type: General

while searching for a new car i knew i loved hot hatches and seeing as honda doesn't make the CRX any more i had to look around. I found and amazing turbo charged 5 cylinder Ford Focus at a more then reasonable price. I then discovered it was only sold in the UK and the equivalent of the car in America is the ugly looking two door focus. The rear seems to be made to look like a Hello Kitty character but the front looks like an attempt to make a bat like headlight set up, gone wrong.

The UK's Focus is faster, better looking, has a better build quality, better selection of colors (Car looks amazing in hot Orange), 5 cylinder Vs. U.S.A.'s 4 cylinder.   Our Focus current 2008-2009 Focus is an insult to the rally champion Focus of prior years.

Ford was founded and is still based in the proud country of America. We the people of America deserve to have the best cars Ford can make.

My opinion... the Focus was a Mistake... hell, the last generation escort was a mistake... I wouldn't say the UK gets better models.... again that's an opinion thing... the UK gets cars that are suited for use in the UK... I'm glad the Fusion is available in north america though... She's a beauty looking car... inside and out... Car Commercials however... they have us hands down... "Evil Ka" anyone? lol

Hmm... A turbocharged i5. I wonder where that motor came from? Perhaps it's from a Volvo! This would stand to reason, considering Ford owns Volvo. However, unlike what GM did to Saab, Ford decided to leave well enough alone with Volvo. This is why Volvos continue to be well made, reliable and luxurious vehicles. I wish GM would have done this as well. Instead, new Saabs are cheaper and less reliable incarnations of the once grand Saab brand. Regardless of family lineage, the UK does seem to get sportier cars than the US. Well, at least hot hatches, anyway!

It boils down to government standards. THe USA has tougher safety and pollution control standards than the rest of the world. Once a car is designed and the powertrain is developed it has to go thru a tough government test so the transmission/engine combination will meet EPA emissions standards. Plus add the fact most Americans arn't really into performance cars (except the V-* models.
