2008 Nissan Altima Hybrid Battery

Asked by Guru5PH9R Jan 29, 2018 at 06:23 PM about the 2008 Nissan Altima Hybrid

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a 2008 Nissan Altima a couple weeks ago at
213k mi. A lot I know. But very often my battery decided
to die and the gauge always seems to read in the blue but
today I was at the inspection station and when they went
to turn it on after not even a minute of it being off it was
dead. Do I need a whole new battery, is there something I
can do or is there something I'm doing wrong? This
happens very often and I just need advice.

When the alternator dies on a Nissan Altima, the car will just stop moving. If no signal is being sent through the system from the alternator, it will just stop. It will stay "on" as long as the battery has life, and it will rev up with the gas pedal in neutral, but as soon as you put it in drive nothing will happen. So you can't even get to where you are going running on battery power, or even try to drive off the road on battery power. When it happened to me I thought it was transmission at first because it wouldn't move in drive. This is the worst electrical system I've seen in a car model. One thing goes wrong, and then nothing works.
