The window regulator moves the glass up and down, Google a diagram for your make/model to see what one looks like, only way to really know what may have broke is to open the door panel and look. Door panels can be tricky to remove, look for a guide to remove one for your make/model. Lot's of screws and blind rivets that may be hidden. But first try placing your palms on the glass and manually move it up and down, the glass may just be slightly off the regulator track.
