fuel gauge light is lit up on E and check engine light has come on - there is definitely fuel in the tank - what could be wrong and are two issues related?

... Sounds like it could be a partial ground .. not very sure about this problem other than it may be water related. Have you driven through and large puddles or been subjected to lots of rain lately? Water,humidity may trigger and alarm. Put a code reader on it and it will give you the time the CEL was triggered. That may give you a hint regarding where you were at when it came on. No.. they should not be related.

BTW .. Most good Auto stores will now put the scanner (code reader) on your car for free and give you the results

I have the same issue, and did take it to a part store to get the code checked, and it is related
