Per the Ford service manual. Symptom Chart — Information And Message Center Condition Possible Sources Action The message center is not operating correctly Wiring, terminals or connectors Message center switch (part of the steering wheel audio control) Instrument cluster (IC) GO to Pinpoint Test AL. The message center display is blank Instrument cluster (IC) INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) in this section. TEST the system for normal operation. Not all segments of the display illuminate Instrument cluster (IC) INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster. I wasn't expecting to see this, obviously it would require diagnosis with the Ford computer and 2 keys to be present to program the theft system if the i/c is replaced. It's not often that the diagnostic symptom chart bluntly states to just replace any module especially one that isn't cheap but Ford put it in black and white so i guess that it is what it is. H.T.H
