05 Lincoln ls doesn't overheat until I put it in reverse to park it

Overheating on 2005 lincoln ls only when
iam parking it in reverse

The gauge SHOWS overheat. But doen it actually overheat?? Sounds to me like the gauge is somehow shorting when the shift lever is moved.
