Question type: Maintenance & Repair

thinking about buying an 07 sport trac limited 4.0 6cyl with 217k on it. no engine noise at all but I have been warned that the timing chains are something to look out for. should I be worried?? gonna have a tranny rebuild because of slippage but didn't want to have a motor problem and be into this truck for a lot of money??

Personally I wouldn't buy a 7 year old vehicle with 217,000 miles on it. That's an average of 31,000 miles per year. Normal is 10,000 to 15,000 miles per year. Plus it's got tranny problems? Timing chains are subject to wear just like anything else. At that mileage it's a "crap shoot". Could fail tomorrow or 5 years from now. I'd rather see you spend your hard earned money on something with less mileage and no issues right out of the gate. Keep looking, there's something better out there waiting for you. HTH. -Jim
