What to do about rust issue on 2007 Ford Escape? (still paying it off)

Asked by fallon1022 Apr 12, 2020 at 12:46 PM about the 2007 Ford Escape XLS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Got the car in 2019, still paying on it. Took it recently for an oil change, the
mechanic pointed out major rust problems. It was never brought to my
attention when I took it in for the first oil change at the dealership back in
September. There is significant rust damage that was never mentioned at
purchase. It passed state inspection. Do I take it back to the dealership
almost a year later? If not wise to do that is there any recommendation on
how / if I can have the damage repaired?

Have shop wire brush the rust and treat it with a rust neutrailzer and then a ruse preventing paint. It was your job to have the car inspected by an independent shop before purchasing. They would have found this in a pre-purchase inspection

I doubt the rust warranty lasts for 13 years. This is why you inspect the car Before you buy it. Have the car inspected by a body shop but I think it is time to scrap it.

An auto body shop can give you a good assessment of the repair. Also check the passenger side wheel well, that is a main area to be concerned with rust. Don't take it to the dealer unless you purchased an extended warranty for rust. A year after buying they are not liable.
