Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Having grinding and knocking/ chattering coming
from front driver side only while braking. What's
causing this? Have replaced several parts on front
end with no luck. Please help if anyone knows
what I'm talking about!! Thanks.

MOST LIKELY ITS ROTORS, DISC BRAKE PADS, WHEEL BEARINGS OUTER AND INNER. COULD BE THE PAD HOLD DOWN CLIPS. THE PADS ON FRONT OF CAR GO AROUND 35,000 MILES BEFORE THEY WEAR OUT. REPLACE THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGER SIDES AT THE SAME TIME.

Rear bushing on the lower control arm may be gone. That causes all sorts of vibrations under braking even when all the brake components are in good shape.

THE CAR IS FRONT WHEEL DRIVE. THERE IS ON THE REAR AXLE. A SEALED BEARING. THEY START TO MAKE A GRINDING NOISE AROUND 120,000 MILES. CHECK THE REAR AXLE SEALED BEARING FIRST. THEN THE BUSHINGS. AL.

However bear in mind that if the noise is coming from the rear wheel bearing it will occur all the time, not just under braking.
