why is my shifter feeling like it’s gonna stop working?

Asked by Dashauna Sep 21, 2020 at 06:25 AM about the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt LS Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My shifter is pretty stiff when changing gears
as if it’s sticky, do I need to replace it?

1 Answer

Possibly. Or the problem could be with your clutch. If its not disengaging like it should shifting could be difficult. And of course on modern cars there are always electronic components at work which do weird and wonderful things when they don't work, so be sure to do thorough troubleshooting before you start replacing parts. I'd start by scanning the car to see if there are any transmission related trouble codes.
