My sister has a 2011 Lincoln MKX and her water pump sheared off or something! Her car quit, got it towed to a Lincoln dealer and they say she has water in the motor and would be cheaper to put a new motor in her car!!!! $7,000. Wow! Do Lincoln’s have defaulty water pumps in these high dollar cars?? Just seems really weird to me in such a newer car! Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone have a solution??

Happened to me too, 2010 Lincoln MKZ, didnt even notice anything wrong with the car, no codes, nothing. Noticed car running a little sluggish, so brought to a mechanic, gave it an oil change, and added some oil additive, and it ran great (no overheating at any point). A few months later, the car overheats, and barely runs without overheating. I check the oil and it looks like mustard, somehow the water pump failed and it did not throw a code or any signs of failing.

And with the water pump failing, coolant gets into the crankshaft timing chain? And kills the engine, plus the actuators? That was originally what the mechanic thought it was, on of the actuators.

I have been dealing with the same problem for about a week or so now. I have a 2011 Lincoln MKZ and after expearincing my car run funny for a couple of days I took it to a mechanic. My computer to my care registered with no era codes and I had no check engin lights. The mechanic literally said they couldn’t do anything and I should just wait until the car breaks down so they will then know where to start looking. All indications st that time were I needed a tune up. I eventually took it to the dealer and they told me it was the water pump. I checked it today and it doesn’t seem to have water in the oil but who knows. My question is why would a manufacturer place such an inexpensive commonly replaced part in an area of the motor where it would cost sooo much to replace.

My 2011 mkz water pump went out and water went in to the motor. Could Lincoln company have know about this problem and did not tell buyer and sold them a lemon any how. Can something be done.

My 2011 MKZ had a water pump go bad and put water in to the engine rather than losing it externally (on the ground). No check engine light and only a little bit of shuddering, and I turned the car off the one time the temp started to rise. The dealer quoted a engine replacement at $8260. The water pump alone requires 16 hours of labor. 96K miles and an excellent, no worry vehicle until now. Very bad design.

Ford/Lincoln knows about this issue! The following is from a class action that was filed: The water pumps installed in the Duratec engines of some Ford vehicles are known to explode and leak anti-freeze into the engine’s oil, according to a class action lawsuit against Ford. The lawsuit alleges that the Duratec engines installed in some Fords, Lincolns and Mazdas are defective due to the water pumps being installed inside the engines themselves. The water pumps are responsible for cooling the engines to prevent overheating of the vehicles. Typically, the water pump is installed outside of the engine and if it breaks, anti-freeze leaks onto the ground. However, broken water pumps located inside Duratec engines leak anti-freeze into the engines’ oil and drive up repair costs. “Water pump exploded and destroyed the engine,” one driver said in a complaint submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
