I have a 2007 Lincoln MKZ. I diconnected the battery, now the car only idles. The wrench and check engine lights appeared and are on. I tried to reset by following the instructions in the owners manual to reset the throttle idle. It did not work. I tried it approx. 3 times. Any other suggestions? I am trying to save a tow to the Ford dealership and save money. Thanks. Any help will be truly appreciated.

Did you disconnect the battery while it was running? If so a voltage spike may have damaged something.

Thanks for the help. No, the car was not running at the time I disconnected the battery.

Just so you know that tool that tennis posted is plugged into a different car or into a jump starter and then into the OBD2 port on the car that will have the battery change. It keeps the codes and is known as a code saver.

I am not sure the 9V type of code saver works or not.The one that plugs into the OBD2 diagnostic port is best.

What was the reason for disconnecting the battery in the first place?
