2007 Jeep Patriot is running higher in RPMs than normal.
My 2007 Jeep Patriot is running higher in RPMs than normal. Going 65 mph I was averaging 2100 or so. Now it is averaging 2500+. I also think that it is idling at a high rpm, but I cannot remember what it usually idles at. Right now the only significant issue is that it is burning through gas. Going 63 miles cost me about a fourth of a tank with an average speed of 65, if that.
At idle you should be around 700. If your at a higher rpm at highway speed my guess would be your Patriots transmission is not shifting into overdrive increasing your rpm and consuming more fuel.
Ok. I know my idle now is at about 1500 right now.
Way too high. Check for vacuum leaks, also check the bolts on your exhaust manifold and check for any leaks in your exhaust. If you have an exhaust leak, you will idle higher. CEL on?
No lights have popped up on my electronic instrument cluster.
