Could this be a bad air compressor?

Asked by Bjford08 Apr 07, 2020 at 12:09 AM about the 2006 Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So for a little while now my 2006 Range Rover
supercharged has had a suspension fault come
across the dash. But a few days ago as I was
driving the suspension completely dropped. The
lights on the height position switch won’t even stay
on for more then a few seconds. I thought possibly
a relay issue, nope. The compressor seems like it
kicks on but on for a few seconds and then just
sputters out. I have no experience with this. Can
somebody please help.

I pulled the compressor out today and all of the air lines still had pressure in them. When I flip the switch to change the ride heights the compressor just sputters. Like it’s trying to work but not at full capacity.

Have you solved it? Mine had the same. A partial fix is to clean and work the exhaust valve attached to the compressor (four screws, WD40). If the air can't be exhausted, to lower the suspension or compensate for bumps, the system is shut off. This test happens at start up, hence the short compressor burst. Now periodically I have to start the engine with the door open, change ride height and back again. The dash message will say close the door to adjust ride height. Do so and the compressor should run until your selection has been reached - presumably "standard". Don't be in a hurry, this might take 2 or 3 minutes. The other alternative is to replace the compressor unit.

I missed the ride height issue. Did it fall slowly or quickly? If quickly. you've probably got an airbag leak. If slowly, see, my previous.
