wheel alignment on Jaguar xk8
My mechanic says caster and camber are way off and cannot be adjusted with a traditional alignment on this car. It is a 2001. Do xk8 cars require a special machine , or what is the deal. I just put new tires on it and need to align properly.
Your mechanic might not have the latest alignment equipment for today's cars. You'll want to find another mechanic or a local tire shop that has the latest alignment tools to perform a proper 4 wheel alignment.
Agreed. I got mine done at a local shop.
I just went through this problem ...caster & camber was fine but I was wearing the inside shoulder off the tires in under 10,000 miles. An alignment shop told me that there is no toe adjustment on my 1999 XK8. I enquired & found that the upper & lower control arms need to be replaced to remedy toe in. There are 4 & are about $800 each in Canada! ouch! I sold the car & bought a newer lower mileage XK8 that tracks straight & true. I have not checked with the Jag dealership ...so do not fault me if this is wrong ...but I accepted that because I found a remedy offered on a Jag forum on the internet. One can install rubber dogs that go in between the upper coils of the springs to prevent the front from squatting & thus slow excessive inner tire wear. I installed them & it made some difference ...but sold the Jag as I was buying a newer one anyway. XKs ...like the E-Type ...are BEAUTIFUL sexy machines ...I will always own one. Hope this helps. Let me know what you find out if you will ...Jim
Toe in and out are adjusted with the track rod ends, camber was originally fixed but a replacement bolt with off set centre is now available for the bottom wishbone and this makes it now adjustable. Castor is adjusted by shims in the top wishbone, a factory diagram is available for what goes where and the shims are cheap to purchase.
