Crank no start no spark

Asked by FRod32 Mar 31, 2019 at 10:00 PM about the 1997 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Silverado Extended Cab Stepside RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I believe I have tried everything and can not figure the problem out.  I have
had my truck since 1997 and only has 138,000 miles on it.  I turned it on to
drive and had it turned on for about 5 minutes then turned off.  I turned it on
again and it ran for approximately 20 seconds and turned off.  I could not get it
to turn on again after that.   I have checked the fuel and compression and they
are good.  I have replace the Ignition switch, Coil, Cam shaft sensor, Crank
shaft sensor, Control Module, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs wires, and
spark plugs.  Not to mention all the fuses under the hood and in the cabin.  I
still have no spark.  Battery is brand new as well.   Any suggestions?

Be sure the battery has a full charge and connections all good. Do you have primary voltage at the ignition coil? Pink wire goes hot with key on, and is fuse protected. Use a test light to check for voltage. Any applicable trouble codes? Usually with sensors, I try to check wiring circuits before replacing anything. If you think the problem is electric, I always want to check voltage and grounds. If it cranks good, but won't start, the basics, check for spark--use a gage and check proper fuel pressure and check fuel injector pulse engine cranking. Just my opinion.
