What is wrong with my head lights and how do i fix them.

Ok my headlights switch keeps burning
out. I can run aprox. 2 weeks and then it
just fritzs out. I change it and the same
stuff.  Nothing but high beams keeps it
going longer. How do i fix this. On
mechanic wants to disssemble the
whole gage panel. Is this nessecary?
