Won’t start when cold, new battery

Asked by Guru9Y92XM Jan 24, 2021 at 08:26 AM about the 2007 Subaru Forester 2.5 X

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We have a 2007 Subaru Forester that will not start in the cold.  Spark plugs
and coil pack were replaced. The water temp sensor was also replaced.  We
recently installed a new battery 550 cold cranking amps.  The car cranks over
fine but will not fire.  Weird part - as soon as I put it on my battery charger it
will start.  Sitting the new battery has 12.8 Vdc.

Crank fast enough to start? Once started go for a highway run to let alternator charge battery. If still no-go charge the battery fully. If still no go think about replacing the alternator as all early ones suffered from overheated internal regulators that become intermittent. The problem was generally solved by the late noughts, but it's been 14 years....

2008 Forster Won't when cold. 99% of the time it is the coil. Heat the coil with a hair blower for about 5 minutes . if it startrs it is the coil. Spray it with silicone spray. Did it it works
