why is it going through so much oil?

it seems i'm putting a quart about every 3 weeks. why?

Well it is an 18 year old car. The real measure of oil consumption is how many miles per quart.

Use thicker oil if consumption or replace gaskets if leaking.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a leaking valve cover gasket these cars were given from the factory cheap valve cover gaskets. Plus my oil pan drain plug was leaking at the same time too!
