Will a 2002 Sl2 engine fit into a 97 SC2 engine bay?

Asked by ProStreetSaturn Apr 11, 2020 at 03:18 PM about the 1997 Saturn S-Series 2 Dr SC2 Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1997 Saturn SC2 1.9 DOHC
with stock transmission. Threw a rod
and needs a new engine due to crack in
the block. I found a 2002 Saturn Sl2 1.9
DOHC for $200 with a bad
transmission. I know these are
different generation engines. Will the
02 engine fit the 97 transmission and
will I need to change anything to make
the 02 engine fit in the 97 bay.

on the size of the 2002 to 1997 I do not think there is any different but on the sensors yes there are some that have been relocated and/or updated I would say take your time and change them over from the old to the new just to be on the safe side ( because the last thing you would like to do is put it all back togetter and find that the hard to get to sensor is not the right one
