Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Timing belt broke and I replace it. Now it makes a rattling sound on cylinder 4. They have a head at lkq and they have one at the junyard can I replace the head and what do I need to know before doing so.

that 2.0 engine is an interference engine which means the pistons and the valves share the same space and is controlled by the timing belt. now when the belt snaps theres a good chance the piston will hit one or more valves. cyl 4 most likely did this. you need a new cylinder head get a rebuilt one not one from a scrapyard. you will need to pull the head off or use a bore scope on cyl 4 and see if the piston or cylinder wall is jacked up, if it is kiss your motor goodbye. if its ok replace the head and it should be fine.

my belt didn't snap but it did shred half of the teeth... I replace the head it's a lot cheaper I bought one from the junkyard the motor looked in pretty good shape pulled the head ($78) spent $125 to have it checked but before you start pulling head make sure each motor you touch you set it at top dead center (timing) or else you'll have bigger problems and make sure to take pictures and understand exactly how your cams are set the lobes on the cam also this will be a big help when you pull the head number 1 & 4 pixton should up and #2 & 3 should be down or vice verse BUT if all the pistons are up or all down you need a new motor oh and by way I have a 2007 Kia Spectra EX she has 317.000 miles and we still can hit 125 mph
