What went wrong

Asked by Axlerod77 Apr 27, 2018 at 04:37 PM about the 1997 Chevrolet Suburban C1500 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had to do a little welding on my exhaust and I
forgot to disconnect the battery. Started fine when
I parked it. After welding it won't start. It turns over
good and when I put gas in the intake it starts and
runs but it just runs that gas and quits. I
disconnect the battery this morning and when I get
home from work I hope it starts. Herd
disconnecting the battery reset everything.

Need to disconnect the battery and ground the vehicle before you weld!!!! Better check fuses and relays, hope that's it.

Well it depends if your ground clamp is to bumper or frame if so dis-connect neg battery cable, but for exhaust with ground clamp fixed to the piece of exhaust your welding on attached close to the weld area, then no, the current is running between the two points, but if your welding with ground clamp fixed to frame not near by your weld then dis-connect neg battery cable first.

Never weld on a vehicle without first disconnecting the battery. You may have burned out the ECU, fuel pump relay or the fuel pump itself.
